Kirkcaldy nursing home residents recreate Remembrance Day memorial

This beautiful poppy display was created by the residents and activities team of Methven House Nursing Home in Kirkcaldy. Made from recycled plastic bottles, an idea that was picked up from Facebook, the display copies the Tower of London art installation which was created to mark the centenary of World War 1.

The residents at Methven House  have spent the last few weeks making each individual poppy by hand, with the assembly of the display taking 1 ½ days to create.  It is made up of several hundred red poppies with one single white poppy, added as a symbol of future hope and peace. The artwork is poignant as the entrance to Methven House overlooks the town’s War Memorial Gardens.

Over the years Kingdom Homes group to have cared for many men and women who served in both the first and second world wars, and it was those individuals who inspired this project.
