St John’s Care Home in Spalding treated residents to a fun filled Abba day this week. Music and entertainment was provided by local singer Rosa Mae who sang all the favourites by the 1970s pop group from ‘Dancing Queen’ to ‘Mama Mia’. The care home staff entered into the spirit of the day, dressing up in their disco outfits and entertaining residents with dancing and singing along.
“We’ve had a fantastic afternoon” said Ida Brickles, Activities Coordinator “Everyone seems to know the words to the songs and it’s been lovely to see our residents getting up and dancing or clapping along to the familiar tunes”.
Music has been shown to be very beneficial to people living with dementia, offering opportunities to enjoy different styles and genres of music people’s mood can be lifted instantly and they are less agitated.
Residents were joined by family members including children and grandchildren who all joined in and agreed the afternoon was a great success.
