To celebrate National Care Home Open Day, Milford Care took residents at one of its homes on a trip down memory lane back to the 1950’s.

The doors were flung open at Spencer Grove care home in Belper, with a fun filled day of activities for the residents and staff.

On Friday staff at Spencer Grove donned 1950’s costumes and got all the residents together for a sing-along and hula hoop competition. This was followed by an American dinner style lunch – chips and burgers were the dish of choice, and an ‘Elvis’ entertainer aka ‘Joby’ was the star of the show.

Donna Annable, care home manager at Spencer Grove said, “These events are a great way to get all of our staff and residents together to celebrate our what we do as a community every day.

“It’s fantastic to see not just the residents but the staff get involved too – there were some great costumes, with all the kitchen staff wearing 50’s style paper hats to complete the look. It was a real blast from the past for some of our residents and a great day was had by all.”
