Pelton care home visitor helps raise over £1,000 for elderly residents

SANTA Claus dropped into a Pelton care home for the annual Christmas fayre – helping to raise over £1,000 for the elderly residents.

Stalls selling bric-a-brac and homemade festive wreaths, ginger punch, Christmas cakes, a tombola and raffle were all part of the Pelton Grange Care Home event.

Residents, staff, family, friends and the wider community turned out in force for the fayre – including the Birtley Town under 10s football team.

Santa’s grotto proved popular with the children and residents alike, who received presents from Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.

In total, the event raised £1,013, which will be pay for day trips for the residents in the new year.

Lindsay Sale-Thorn, activities coordinator at Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street in Pelton, Chester-Le-Street, said: “Residents love attending our Christmas fayres.

“They enjoy shopping at the stalls, getting their photos taken with Santa and spending time with the local community.

“This year, we were overwhelmed with the support. I can’t thank everyone enough for visiting the home.

“The residents really enjoyed seeing new faces, especially the children, who just bring Christmas to life.”
