Are you a family carer supporting someone with dementia?
Would you benefit from taking a break to learn more about dementia and develop your caring skills?
If that sounds interesting, then the Royal Surgical Aid Society would like to talk to you!
RSAS is looking for family carers of people with dementia to take part in a new three-day residential support programmes. These are being held in different hotel venues in Birmingham, Solihull and Wiltshire. They are developing a new approach to carer support, where carers come together in small groups to share their experiences of caring in a friendly, supportive environment with others who are going through the same thing.
During the programmes carers enjoy some down time, learn more about themselves and about dementia, build confidence in their caring skills, and learn how to find local support and plan ahead.
These are residential programmes, where carers spend three-days/two nights in an hotel and take part in learning sessions, practical sessions and leisure activities. The RSAS are piloting the programmes to find out more about what family carers need and value, and the ways carers prefer to learn and be supported. The programmes are being offered free-of-charge to carers and include accommodation and meals. Longer term, they plan to run residential support programmes like these in the new RSAS National Resource Centre for Carers of People with Dementia, scheduled to open in 2019/2020.
These new programmes are designed and run by skilled and compassionate RSAS staff, who have extensive knowledge of dementia and experience of supporting family carers and people with dementia.
In these first programmes they are focusing on people who are caring for a parent, spouse or partner with dementia (of any age), and carers of younger people with dementia (younger people with dementia are considered to be those under the age of 65 years). In later events they will be able to offer some programmes for carers to attend alongside the person they are caring for.
They are running seven different programmes (subject to demand) over January 2017 to April 2018 at the following venues:
|19–21 January 2018||St. Johns Hotel, 651 Warwick Road, Solihull, Birmingham B91 1AT|
