Clement Visser, who lives at Fernlea House residential care home in Cardenden, Fife has always had a huge interest in cars and they don’t come much more special than a Ferrari!
Care home staff decided to try and enable him to have a day out with a difference! Knockhill Race Circuit in Fife came up trumps and the care home was able to deliver Clem’s wish to experience a trip in the famous race car.
On a very cold November morning, with snow threatening Fernlea House staff and Clement set off in the Kingdom Homes minibus.
Luckily although still cold, the snow stayed away they arrived at Knockhill and after checking in found time to relax with coffee and biscuits before Knockhill driver Richard arrived to escort them down to the pit lane.
Clem was able to choose between a drive in the Ferrari or an Aston Martin (what a dilemma!) but decided to stick with the Ferrari.
Being a tall gentleman it was a tight squeeze but once in the passenger seat he was safely belted in. When the track lights changed to green they were off for 3 laps round the racetrack, reaching speeds of up to 100mph down the straight!
The smile on Clem’s face as they returned to the pit lane showed just how much he had enjoyed this thrilling drive and he had a good look at the engine while Richard explained the technicalities of the car.
As a wind down from the excitement Clem enjoyed a meal at the restaurant at Knockhill before boarding the minibus and driving back to Cardenden at a slightly more sedate pace than the Ferrari had set!
