Mayor joins Blaina care home for summer fête

Staff and residents at a Blaina care home were joined by the local mayor as they celebrated the end of the summer with a fête.

Cwm Celyn care home, which is owned and operated by Shaw healthcare, invited mayor Clive Bridgeman and Shaw healthcare chairman Alun Thomas to the event, which included raffles, face painting, tombola’s and cake stalls.

Service manager, Simon Morgan, and staff nurse, Steve Jones, both also braved a back wax, while maintenance worker Chris Walden had the same on his legs. The various activities helped raise more than £700 towards the resident’s amenity fund, which will go towards extras trips and activities for residents in Cwm Celyn.

Simon said: “This was a wonderful event. It was great to see so many relatives and loved ones attend the day too. I would like to thank everyone who was involved and made the day such a success, especially our resident activity workers Helen Edwards and Emma Allford, who worked tirelessly to organise all of the activities.”

Alun Thomas, Chairman for Shaw healthcare, added: “These events really highlight the close community feeling here at Cwm Celyn and how much they are supported by everyone. I have very much enjoyed seeing the residents and their families enjoying time together”.

Cwm Celyn provides specialist support for those with mental health issues. They have links with the local community, to provide social interaction and educational opportunities for residents. The home consists of 24 rooms as well as communal and garden areas for the residents.
