Banbury care home resident celebrates birthday with a furry friend!

A popular Banbury care home resident has celebrated her 102nd birthday with family and friends at a special event held at Featherton House, which is part of Wren Retirement Living.

Constance ‘Nancy’ Sterling was the VIP at the party, which was organised by staff at the Banbury-based care home, and included a special ‘donkey’ guest.

Nancy used to work in a donkey sanctuary, so the visit brought back many fond memories, as well as entertaining fellow residents and guests, which included members of Nancy’s family.

Nancy was born on a farm in Lincolnshire, in 1915, and worked as a homemaker during the Second World War, before becoming a magistrate and District Commissioner of the Pony Club.

She was married to her husband Bob, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 94, and has two daughters – Caroline and Clare – as well as four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Her secret to living a long life is to “just keep going!”

Holly Rose, Home Manager at Featherton House, said: “Nancy is a wonderful resident and we were delighted to celebrate her special day in style. She is a very popular resident with staff and her fellow residents and it was great to welcome a donkey to the home, which brought back some nice memories for her, as well as entertained everyone in attendance.

“We are looking forward to hosting further community events and celebrations at Featherton House, and would like to wish Nancy all the very best on her 102nd birthday!”
