Adrenaline junkie takes to the skies to raise money for children’s hospice

A daredevil staff member from Surrey Choices took to the skies recently when she participated in a charity skydive at Skydive London, raising over £600 for local children’s hospice, Shooting Star Chase.

Adrenaline loving Nicky Harding, Employment and Communities Manager at the social care provider, was inspired to raise money for the charity following her experience with families who have used the respite service at the Surrey based hospice.

Free-falling from 10,000 feet at 120 miles an hour, Nicky enjoyed a six-minute glide over the stunning landscapes of the Southern Cotswolds, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, all in aid of raising money for chosen charity, Shooting Star Chase.

Talking of her experience, Guildford based Nicky, said: “I’d added skydiving to my bucket list some time ago and so doing it whilst raising money for such an amazing hospice made it a truly memorable experience for me.

“The work that Shooting Star Chase does for children and their families is remarkable. The service that they provide is free of charge and so most of their income comes from the vital fundraising efforts of the public.

“I loved every minute of it and I would encourage anyone who has ever thought of doing something out of their comfort zone for charity to just go for it, I can promise you won’t regret it.”

Shooting Star Chase is a leading hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions. The charity relies greatly on the generosity of the public to keep services running, which includes day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a range of support for the whole family.

Surrey Choices provides support services in the community for people aged 18 or over with learning, mental, physical or sensory disabilities. They offer a wide range of day and community support services, supported employment, enhanced home living and support, training and skills enhancement as well as full personal assistance service.
