Local care home hosts Huntingdon’s first ever Dementia Friends session


Ferrars Hall Care Home recently had the pleasure of hosting Huntingdon’s first ever Dementia Friends session, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Society. The event drew in lots of local people and businesses, keen to make Huntingdon a more dementia friendly town, Lloyd Pharmacy, Tesco’s and the Alzheimer’s Society to name a few.


The event was ran by Hillary Sheppard of the Alzheimer’s Society, who led a very informative presentation, discussing types of dementia and the prevalence of the disease over the past decade.


The Dementia Friends initiative now have over one million Dementia Friends across England and Wales, who are going out into their communities with a greater understanding of dementia and some of the ways they can help people living with the condition. Dementia Friends state their main aim is to help create communities in which people living with dementia feel more understood and included.

The next meeting will be held in April 2017 (Date TBC) and local residents, businesses and associations are encouraged to get involved. To register your interest, people are asked to call Julie Britten, Home Manager of Ferrars Hall Care Home on 01480 456 359.
