Staff and residents in Hightown Housing Association’s supported living scheme in Hitchin enjoyed a ‘Digni-tea and cakes’ event for Dignity Action Day to celebrate the importance of treating everyone with respect and dignity.
Residents created their own ‘Digni-tree’ of thoughts and ideas associated with dignity and what it means to them, as well as discussing treating each other with respect, listening to others and how the staff treat them with dignity.
It was part of a national Dignity Action Day event which aimed to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.
Each resident of the Napier Close scheme, which provides 15 supported living flats for people with learning disabilities, receives agreed support on an individual basis and is encouraged to take an active role in the community, which may include fundraising, finding a job or accessing education and training.
