Residents at a Chorley care home were treated to a special festive surprise by two professional musicians.

Talented duo Laura McKinlay and Ruairidh MacMillan visited Laura’s grandmother, Maureen Houghton, at The Lodge at Bucksaw Retirement Village, Chorley, and brought along their violins for an impromptu performance at the home.

Laura, who works as at  the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on an education project called ‘in harmony’ and Ruairidh, who plays with a band called the ‘Blazin’ Fiddles’ entertained residents and staff with a number of their favourite tunes, including Christmas songs.

Benjamin Markham, community lead at The Lodge, said: “The residents really enjoyed the live music, especially the Christmas songs. It created a lovely atmosphere and got everyone into the festive spirit.

“You could see Maureen was beaming with pride to see her granddaughter perform in front of all of her friends. We get a lot of visitors here at The Lodge, but it’s especially nice to welcome family members who have travelled a long way to see their loved ones at this time of year.”
