Ideal Carehomes-care industry newsBrinnington Hall, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, celebrated a milestone birthday for a special lady hosing a birthday party in her honour.  Hilda Oldham turned 100 on 15 December and enjoyed celebrating with her family and friends and surprise special guests, the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport

Hilda had a whole day of celebrations, enjoying champagne, a buffet and a cake.  Staff decorated the home with balloons and banners in her honour and she was particularly excited to receive a birthday card from the Queen and one from The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Iain Duncan Smith.

Hilda was born in Salford in 1915 during the First World War to Harry and Lilly Whittaker.  Hilda was the eldest child, and had a younger brother and sister.  Leaving school at 14 years old, she worked at Metro Vicars as a coil winder for 15 years.  Hilda went on to become a shorthand typist in Manchester.  She has one son, David, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Hilda lived at home in Prestwich until she came to live at Brinnington Hall two years ago.  She was quite a jet-setter and has holidayed in many destinations throughout her life, including Las Vegas, Portugal, Italy and Majorca.

Brinnington Hall is located in Stockport and offers residential and dementia care to 67 local older people.  Home Manager, Diane Cooper, said “Everyone here at Brinnington Hall had a great time celebrating Hilda’s 100th birthday.  We were really excited to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport and Hilda particularly enjoyed a nice glass of red wine to celebrate.  In fact, she puts her long life down to having a good time and the occasional tipple!”

Through a varied programme of activities, highly nutritious food and inspirational spaces, Brinnington Hall provides residents with person-centred care, creating aspirational lifestyle choices.  The staff at Brinnington Hall like to keep residents busy with the many activities arranged on a daily basis, and they are already looking forward to making arrangements for Hildas’ 101st birthday!
