Staff at Woodgate residential home in Tonbridge, granted a wish that enabled resident, Gladys Giannini, to spend a day at the seaside with her two sons.
On 13th May, accompanied by staff members, Leah and Maria, her two sons, Dennis and Brian and their dog, Dillon, Gladys made the trip to Hastings, to spend a nostalgic day with her family.
The sun was shining as the group spent the day wandering around the shops in the old town and basking in the sun on the seafront, before settling down to enjoy fish and chips and a cup of coffee.
Gladys’ sons enjoyed the day too and were very grateful to the staff for giving them the opportunity, Dennis said: “mum loved it and so did we, many thanks to Leah and Maria for organising.”
Simon Rowland, care coordinator at Woodgate said: “Gladys doesn’t usually communicate but she was singing for days after the trip, it was lovely to see.”
The Abbeyfield Kent Society launched the Wish Appeal in April 2014. Recognising that it is often the simple things in life that older people desire, such as a meal at their favourite restaurant or a day out with their family, the fundraising initiative was created to grant wishes for residents living in the Society’s care.
You can donate to The Wish Appeal by visiting www.justgiving.com/abbeyfieldkent or text ‘WISH05’ followed by the amount, to 70070 e.g. ‘WISH05 £10’
