ageingageingIn celebration of its 10th anniversary, Healthcare Homes group – an East Anglian-based residential and domiciliary care provider – is hosting a series of creative and fun challenges for each of its 23 homes located across the eastern counties. The first challenge for staff and residents is to design and bake a cake to mark the group’s decade in business, which will be judged as part of this year’s National Care Home Open Day on Friday 19th June.

The Healthcare Homes ‘Cake Bake-Off Challenge’ enables staff and residents to come up with a creative design, colours or theme for their cakes. The finished products will then be on display at each home on Friday 19th June, which coincides with National Care Home Open Day, enabling visitors to both view and sample the delicious cakes with afternoon tea.

Sue Campbell-Bannerman and Rita Coleman, the Group Activities Coordinators for Healthcare Homes who devised the idea for the anniversary challenge said: “What better way to celebrate ten years of the Healthcare Homes group than with a beautiful cake at every home to help kick off the festivities. Competitors can choose any design, flavour or colour of cake but they must include the number 10 somewhere, which can be in any form. The management team at Healthcare Homes will then judge the entries by reviewing ‘before, during and after’ photographs. I know many of the residents that live in our homes greatly enjoy cooking and baking, so it’s a great chance for them to put their skills to the test and enjoy the fun challenge.”

Debbie Christian, Operations Director of the Healthcare Homes group adds: “Not only does the bake-off encourage residents, staff, friends and family to engage with each other in a fun and creative way for our tenth anniversary, but it is also a great opportunity for all our homes to open their doors for National Care Homes Open Day and welcome in members of the local community; this in turn helps residents feel more closely connected with their local communities.”

National Care Home Open Day is a UK-wide initiative that invites care homes to open their doors to their local communities. Thousands of care homes across the UK take part each year, welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.
