Ahead of the grand opening of Encore’s new purpose-built care home, Oakdale, the group has appointed David Taylor as home manager.

David is a registered nurse and holds the Registered Manager’s Award, an industry recognised qualification. David will head up the care team at the new home, which is due to open in Poole this autumn, and brings with him a wealth of experience having worked in the care sector for more than 30 years.

Prior to his role with Encore, David has been a care home manager for a selection of care home groups such as Bupa and Four Seasons Health Care.

Encore will be introducing an electronic care planning system to Oakdale which will be overseen by David. The new software will enable the care team to have more time to devote to residents and will allow record keeping to be more efficient and as a result, create better communication between healthcare professionals.

Commenting on his role, David said: “Encore is an exciting company to be part of due to its passion for doing things differently, not only does the group strive to provide good care, but it also looks after its staff. This is done by investing in team members and in return allows our care teams to develop a true home for residents.

“Throughout the next month I am looking forward to being able to recruit my team and developing the right can-do culture in our home. We have already appointed our deputy manager who is a highly experienced clinical nurse, and our head chef who has experience in catering for care homes and restaurants too, so he will be able to bring an extra flair to our food offering.

“Our residents will be at the centre of everything we do at Oakdale and the care team must have the right skills and attitude to make Oakdale the community’s care home of choice. We want to be recognised for the standard of care that we deliver and are keen to promote that moving into a care home is a new beginning for residents, it provides them with the opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy new experiences.”

All team members will be recruited based not only on their skills for the role, but also for their people skills, having a genuine passion to do the right thing and if they go the extra mile to ensure residents feel that they are listened to and enjoy life at Oakdale.

Oakdale is the latest addition of an established family of care homes managed by Encore Care Homes. Encore now manages three care homes in Dorset including Great Oaks in Bournemouth and Fairmile Grange on the grounds of Christchurch Hospital. The business also manages Hamble Heights in Fareham, Hampshire.

The new state-of-the-art residential, nursing and dementia care home, based in Kingsmill Road, can accommodate 84 residents, and has been designed with their wellbeing at its core. The building’s spacious communal areas, large floor-to-ceiling windows and verandas ensure the home is flooded with natural light, creating a warm and bright ambiance. Each room is generously sized with a private en-suite wet room, movement-triggered lights, and adaptable lighting levels to suit residents’ individual needs.
