The Care Quality Commission has rated the care being provided at Newbus Grange to be Outstanding after an inspection in December 2018.

Newbus Grange, an independent mental health hospital run by Oakview Estates Limited part of the Danshell Group, provides assessment and support to adult males with autism or a learning disability. The service operates as an alternative for people who are unable to receive relevant care and treatment in the community.

The service was rated Outstanding overall, and for caring and well-led services. Safe, effective and responsive services were rated Good.

A full report of the inspection has been published on the CQC website: https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-894282280

Jenny Wilkes, Head of Hospital Inspection (Mental Health) said:

“Distinctively caring, a strong focus on continuous improvement and high-quality care sets this service apart.

“We saw how staff supported patients with compassion and respect, promoting their dignity through including them in their care planning. Staff’s emotive support and knowledge of people’s likes and dislikes was recognised, and helpful in difficult situations to nullify the need for restraint or seclusion methods. We consistently received very positive feedback from patients and their families about the quality of the care.

“It was clear the provider’s vision and values of the service had been communicated effectively throughout the service, creating an open and honest culture enabling staff to make changes in support of patient needs.

“To improve and be awarded an Outstanding rating is fantastic achievement, well done.”

A Cygnet Health Care Spokesperson said:
