The Care Quality Commission has rated the care being provided at Northbourne, a care home in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, to be Outstanding after an inspection in November last year.

The service is run by Anchor Hanover Group, part of Anchor Trust, and was previously rated Good in 2016. At the time of the inspection the home was at maximum capacity with 33 people living there.

Following the latest inspection Northbourne was rated Outstanding overall and for services that are responsive and well-led. Safe, effective and caring services were rated Good.

A full report of the inspection has been published on the CQC website: https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-126240989

Ros Sanderson – Head of Inspection (North East and Coast), Adult Social Care said:

“This service really put people’s needs first and focused on delivering high quality person centred care.

“We saw how staff had invested time getting to know the people they supported, learning their history and preferences to better tailor the care being provided. We also saw how people’s experiences were understood and respected when events, such as birthdays, were celebrated.

“The service was very good at enabling people to safely explore the local community and avoid social isolation. They had signposted various local places of interest for people to explore, and showed what was on offer, as well as inviting local community groups into the home to further encourage social interactions. Technology was brought in throughout the home to support people’s interest in music and other beneficial activities.

“Close ties with the local community and organisations had been formed, and management used the input to continuously improve the care it provided. The service also proactively sought the views and opinions of the people living in the home and their relatives, and consulted with them on the running of the home to ensure the best care was being provided.

“A truly Outstanding service, congratulations to everyone involved.”
