Pear tree planted to celebrate ‘supported housing’ topping out in Worcester

The Mayor of Worcester joined Specialised Supported Housing to celebrate the topping out of a Comer Road housing development with a special tree planting ceremony.

The developers are working in partnership with support provider Lifeways and social care landlord Inclusion Housing to provide independent living support in 20 modern apartments, due to complete in August.

The Mayor of Worcester was given a tour of the development, named Bedwardine Court, and was able to find out more about the homes that will be available to individuals in the local area.

Specialised Supported Housing’s vision is to build exceptional housing for people with complex care requirements, and this is their second development in Worcester, the first being Baskerville Hall in Shrubbery Avenue.

Founder Grant Livingstone commented: “After growing up with a brother who had a learning disability, I quickly realised that the care industry needed support from the private sector to supply quality supported living environments.

“I work with a team of like-minded partners and our vision is to build homes that will lead to better outcomes for those that live in them. We are able to be fully flexible with our partners, resulting in homes like Bedwardine Court, that are at the heart of communities.”

The Mayor of Worcester added: “I was very impressed by the level of equipment and thought behind the design and build of the project.  It shows what can be achieved when developers, care providers and local authorities come together to achieve a common goal.

“Grant clearly has a personal motive and ambition to build the best supported living accommodation in the business and that passion shows in the level of detail, the high quality of finish and empathy toward the eventual tenants.”

Tom Falconer, project manager at Lifeways, said: “Co-production is at the heart of everything we do. Lifeways is thrilled to be part of finding a solution to meet the needs of local people wanting to move on to greater independence. From the overall building design to the design and layout of each individual home, Bedwardine Court will provide people with very high quality and adapted accommodation in the heart of the community”.

Founded in 2016, Specialised Supported Housing is a small, but rapidly growing supported housing development company. The organisation is currently working on four other housing projects across England.
