Around 60 guests, including the Mayor of Eastleigh, Councillor Maureen Sollitt, and residents from the charity’s current home in Otterbourne, The Old Parsonage, celebrated the event at the site on Otterbourne Hill near Winchester. The residents from The Old Parsonage will be the first people to move in to Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill in summer 2018 and they had signed a number of roof tiles. These were then handed over to Carole Sawyers, Chief Executive of The Brendoncare Foundation, to nail on to the roof, as a permanent link between the two Brendoncare homes.
Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill will provide several services on the one site. A care home will offer both nursing and dementia care in small households, while apartments will support couples facing a diagnosis of dementia. This will mean that they can continue to live together, while benefitting from onsite care and support services.
Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill will also offer a community hub with a wide range of facilities, such as a restaurant, hairdressing salon, IT room and winter garden, as well as activities and dementia-friendly clubs running throughout the week. The hub will be open to people living at Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill and in the local community to enjoy.
The innovative development is due to open in summer 2018.
Carole Sawyers, Brendoncare’s Chief Executive, commented “This is an exciting day for us, marking another stage in the construction of this pioneering scheme, which will provide care and support for people living both on the site and in the local area.” She continued “We are especially delighted to welcome residents from Brendoncare The Old Parsonage to what will be their new home. We are very much looking forward to summer next year, when the first residents will be able to move in.”
Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill is being built by Stepnell and Senior Project Manager Martin Balcombe was on hand to oversee Carole nailing on the roof tiles.
Stepnell Regional Director, Rob Speirs, said “It’s a proud moment to have reached this key point in the construction programme and we’re delighted to have been able to share it with some of the scheme’s future residents and with Brendoncare. This is an important scheme which will deliver first-rate specialist care; our team are committed to delivering the project to the very highest standard.”
