More than 200 people gathered at The Chesford Grange in Warwickshire for the annual Shaw Star Awards, which aims to reward the achievements of outstanding staff members from amongst the 4,600-strong workforce at more than 80 facilities managed by Shaw healthcare.

Elizabeth House care home in Bognor Regis and Waverley House in Leominster, won the two facility awards, while individual winners included Hayley Harwood, team leader at The Martlets care home in West Sussex who was recognised in the Wellness category and Josey Davies, a domestic assistant at Froome Bank in Herefordshire, who was named in the Kindness category. Meanwhile, Alison House, a team leader at Ledbury ICU, was awarded the Clinical Excellence accolade for her dedication and determination, which included an incident where she delivered 40 minutes of resuscitation to a seriously ill, four month old baby who had been brought in by their family. Her speedy and heroic actions resulted in the baby surviving.

There was a distinctly international flavour to the Outstanding Management Contribution award, which was shared by home manager Wan Nowakowski, from Burleys Wood care home in Crawley, and Annie Gong, a project manager based at Shaw’s office in Shanghai, China. Other winners were nominated by colleagues and selected by a panel of judges from Shaw healthcare’s executive team in categories such as Happiness, Exceptional Leader and Administrator of the Year.

Jeremy Nixey, chief executive of Shaw healthcare, said: “We’re now in the ninth year of the Shaw Star Awards; an evening which truly gives us the opportunity to recognise staff across the company for their hard work, dedication and genuine care that they put into their jobs.

“It really is an achievement to be shortlisted, let alone take home an award, as all nominations come from fellow colleagues, those who use our services and their families. It’s a night of celebrating the real difference that these incredible individuals make to the quality of care provided, whether in a small, everyday task or the overseeing of an entire home.”
