thThe Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds to be Outstanding overall, following an unannounced inspection carried out in July.

It also delivers physical, emotional and holistic care, including bereavement counselling support for children as well as adults, an outpatient service, occupational and creative therapy, complementary and physiotherapy, spiritual support and social workers.

Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. St Gemma’s Hospice was rated Outstanding overall, Outstanding for being effective, caring, responsive and well-led and Good for being safe.

Kerry Jackson, Chief Executive of St Gemma’s Hospice said: “We are delighted with this rating and especially proud that we also achieved an outstanding score in 4 out of the 5 key domains assessed: safe, caring, responsive, effective and well led.  This is very much a team effort and this wonderful result highlights the quality of our care, our people and the organisation as a whole. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding team of staff and volunteers for their commitment to providing the best possible care and support to patients and their loved ones, both in the Hospice and out across the community. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the amazing support we receive from the wider community, our volunteers and fundraisers. Everyone who donates and buys at our charity shops, takes part in our fundraising events, and contributes in any way allows us to continue providing this care. I would like to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you.

We are privileged to be here providing outstanding care to the people of Leeds and beyond, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
