Following Barley Close’s outstanding rating this month by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Voyage now operates three of the 17 outstanding residential homes in the learning disabilities and 18-65 age group category.
Barley Close, a care home for ten individuals with learning and physical disabilities in Devon, received the rating following a routine inspection in April.
Staff were praised for “developing exceptionally positive, kind, and compassionate relationships” with those they support and showing a commitment to “continually improving each person’s quality of life.” As a result of this commitment, the report also recognised that “the social skills (of those living in Barley Close) had improved and they were part of their local community… supported to pursue a wide range of activities.”
Amanda Griffiths, director of quality at Voyage commented: “We’re thrilled that Barley Close has joined Ling Crescent and Derwent Cottage as one of our outstanding learning disability services.
“As the number of services we have with this rating continues to grow we are ensuring those responsible for providing this exceptional level of care are sharing their expertise and knowledge throughout Voyage.
“The key to the staff at Barley Close delivering great care is their absolute knowledge and understanding of what is important to the people we support.
“The staff at Barley Close know what matters to people both individually and also as a wider group within a home and this makes the on-going delivery of outstanding care so much more achievable.
“The arrival at the judgement of Outstanding is the result of a journey of which everyone at Barley Close including the staff team and the people living there identified and agreed the final destination. That destination has always been and will remain the delivery of great and personal care with fantastic outcomes for the people living in the home.”
Derwent Cottage in Scarborough was awarded outstanding rating in February last year with Ling Crescent in Headley Down receiving the same rating in March 2015.
