Larkhill Hall care home in Liverpool, operated by Ideal Carehomes, received a “Good” rating from the Care Quality Commission in an inspection report published this month. The home achieved the enviable rating in all five key areas of care: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The report was complimentary about all areas of the home, but particularly for the staff who work there. The Inspector noted that the staff respected the resident’s privacy and dignity at all times, and that they were actively encouraged and supported to be independent wherever possible. One relative commented to the Inspector, “the staff are brilliant with my Mum and Dad. They support them to spend time together.” It was also noted that staff are suitably trained and skilled to meet the needs of the people living in the home.
Staff expressed their confidence in Home Manager, Sherrel Sacker, saying they are supportive of her management approach and described her as “really involved – she knows the people who lives with us well”.
Sherrel commented on the report, saying: “I am so proud to have achieved such a glowing report from the CQC inspection. The teams’ efforts and dedication to their residents is second to none, the staff make a real difference to the lives of our residents and the report just proves that Larkhill Hall is a great place to live”.
CQC made the unannounced visit on 29 September 2015. Having spent time interacting with staff and residents, they found residents enjoyed the food the home has to offer, with a varied choice at meal times which is always nutritionally balanced. The Inspector noted that residents benefitted from a wide range of activities and that they were independently engaging in activities of their own choice, including chair-based exercises and enjoying a visiting entertainer.
Paul Fletcher, Ideal Carehomes Regional Director, commented, “Ideal Carehomes is always striving to find new ways we can improve our care and make a difference to the lives of our residents. It was therefore exceptionally pleasing to read that one of our residents’ commented to the Inspector that they felt very safe at Larkhill Hall, stating “If I wasn’t here, I’d be on my own and I’d be frightened”. A comment like that is testament to the amazing work of Sherrel and her team.”
The overarching theme of the report is that the people who live at Larkhill Hall feel safe, are happy and are being cared for and supported with privacy and dignity.
