Glen Care is proud to have raised £350 during Mental Health Awareness Week.
Dr Andreas Fonseca, Glen Care’s Medical Director, put his best foot forward around Cobtree Manor Park near Maidstone to raise money for the charity. He took part in a sponsored walk, accompanied by service users and colleagues to support the fundraising.
Neil Barker, occupational therapist at Glen Care’s Glenhurst Lodge in Maidstone, entered into the spirit of the fundraising with a four hour sponsored gardening shift to launch a garden project the service will be undertaking.
The Langford Centre in Bexhill on Sea held a mental health awareness fair to highlight ‘Mindfulness’ which was the theme of this year’s Awareness Week.
Fundraising will continue throughout the year to boost the monies raised.
Every year, between 11-17 May, Mental Health Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing issues.
Dr Fonseca said: “It is vitally important that we talk about mental health and do everything possible to de-stigmatise mental illness.
“I’m very pleased to be able to play a small part in raising money for the Mental Health Foundation and I’m proud to have walked alongside service users and colleagues who embraced the event and gave me great support.
“I hope that all the events which took place across the country stimulated discussion and debate and helped to promote more understanding of mental illness and those living with it.”
