Newton Abbot care home, Southlands Care Home, has been acquired by new owners with funding provided by The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

Decorum Care & Support Services Ltd, which is owned by experienced industry figure Andrew Bone, has acquired the 28 bedroom elderly care facility after it was put up for sale by its previous owners who were retiring. RBS has supported the acquisition with a fee free loan.

Andrew Bone, Managing Director of Decorum Care & Support Services Ltd said: “I’m delighted that our acquisition of Southlands has been successful. The home has an outstanding reputation in the region and provides residents with a first class level of care.

“The standards achieved by staff and the previous owners of the home are very high and I plan to continue to run the home to these exacting standards. I also plan to improve the facilities we provide, and we are in the process of totally refurbishing the property. We are investing in new beds, living furniture and garden furniture for our residents to use and aim to create an environment that is extremely comfortable and enjoyable for them to live in.

“We have also recruited an activities co-ordinator and plan to do more enablement work with residents, encouraging them to live more independently.

“I have worked in the care industry for many years and sold my previous homes over five years ago to concentrate on other interests. Since 2013, I have been looking for a suitable care home to purchase and when I heard that Southlands was on the market I knew that this was the perfect opportunity for me to take. We have a very stable staff team who are excellent at their jobs, the residents are lovely and the home has great feel to it.

“Graham Tallyn at RBS has been a great support to me over the last couple of years whilst I have been searching for the right investment and I am very pleased with the service he has provided. The funding from the bank been excellent, not only has it supported the acquisition, but it has made us some substantial savings with regards to fees.”

Graham Tallyn, Relationship Director, Healthcare at RBS said: “I am pleased to be working alongside Andrew and that his acquisition of Southlands Care Home has been a success. Andrew has an excellent reputation within the industry and the subtle improvements he is making to the home will further improve the quality of life of its already well cared for residents.”
