A care home in Blaina is celebrating 30 years of delivering care for its residents.
Cwm Celyn care home in Abertillery marked the milestone with a celebratory garden party for residents and staff, with family and friends joining in the fun online via Zoom.
Three staff members who have worked at the home since it opened in April 1991 – Julie Watkins, Beverley Williams and Anthony Lewis – were all thanked for their long service, while a chocolate hamper was presented to Clive Morris, the only resident to have lived at the home for the entire 30 years.
The event, which included a look back over the years at Cwm Celyn, was also attended virtually by Councillors Des and Carole Hillman.
Leanne Smith, home manager of the Shaw healthcare-operated home, commented: “It was great to celebrate this amazing milestone. Ideally we would have opened our doors to family and friends as well as entertainers, but I am lucky to have such a dedicated and caring team who made it a very special occasion.”
Cwm Celyn care home operated by Shaw healthcare, provides specialist support for those suffering from mental health issues. This includes projects with the local community (when COVID-19 restrictions are not in place), to provide social interaction and educational opportunities for residents. The home consists of 24 rooms as well as communal and garden areas for the residents.
