  • Maria Mallaband Care Group (MMCG) is embarking on a number of key new projects this year, which could see its existing team of 4,000 employees nationwide grow by 20%.

Founded in 1996, the organisation is already established as a key player in the market with 80 sites at present. According to a 2017 ONS survey, it is predicted that more than 20% of the UK population with be aged 65+ by 20301. In anticipation of the growth in demand to support the nation in later life, MMCG is stepping up. The group is keen to showcase the wealth of opportunities on offer, particularly from those currently working within sectors that have been struggling recently. This means an increase in recruitment activity, more diverse roles and a greater focus on training and development for those looking to develop their career in the sector.

Jon Mason, Recruitment Manager at Maria Mallaband Care Group commented:

“The care industry is an incredible, diverse place to work. With so many exciting developments this year, there’s a huge range of roles available all over the country. These include front-line care, activities development, catering, facilities support as well as office-based and head office positions. If you are passionate about making a difference, this is definitely the time to find out more about the opportunities available to you.”

Both MMCG and Countrywide Care Homes, a part of the Maria Mallaband Care Group, secured Investors in People (IIP) accreditation again at the end of 2020. This achievement affirms a commitment to care not only for every person living within the care homes, but for every employee working throughout the organisation as well.

A key step towards securing the IIP accreditation was MMCG’s investment in training and development. For both new candidates and existing employees looking to take the next steps in their career, the group offers numerous avenues to expand on existing skills and knowledge. Employees can even study alongside an existing role to achieve new qualifications that open doors that may not otherwise have been accessible to them. Many of these programmes are delivered in partnership with external education providers, including top UK universities. Such opportunities are not only an attraction to join the industry but ensure existing employees are able to progress their careers at MMCG.

Where some industries have struggled in the wake of a challenging financial climate, Maria Mallaband continues to flourish and grow. Recently, the care industry has seen many individuals recognising the potential in this area and adapting their knowledge and skills. With MMCG investing in its activities and hospitality provision, there is now an increasing demand for new skills, such as customer service, leisure, and entertainment.

Jon Mason continued:

“The diverse and broad nature of the care sector means there are roles for everyone of any background. For example, hospitality workers can use their natural people skills to care for residents compassionately. Whilst others, such as managers in retail and travel, can make the transition to leading a team of employees and carers with the right support, training and advice from our team at MMCG.”

It is not only the range of roles that is growing at MMCG, but the number of care homes as well. As the demand for high-quality care services continues to rise, MMCG is expanding its portfolio with a number of custom-built properties due to launch this year. This is in addition to ongoing acquisition and redevelopment projects.

MMCG is hoping to increase headcount by 20% this year as the organisation offers further opportunities for those working in the care sector and those looking to join the industry – with more diverse roles on offer, numerous training and developing opportunities as well as a rapidly expanding portfolio.
