Barnes Lodge Care Home resident, Jack Angus, turned 90 on Thursday 2nd April but despite being on lockdown, his family and staff of the Tonbridge home ensured it was special.

It’s unlikely to be a birthday you’ll ever forget when celebrating during the Coronavirus pandemic, but Jack’s family and staff of the Tudeley Lane care home, made sure it was unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Jack’s daughter and son-in-law still visited the home, but they spoke through the window and left his cards and gifts by the main doors. He was able to unwrap his gifts, open his cards and have a chat with them at a safe distance. Staff also made a birthday cake for the occasion.

Nicky Pett, General Manager of Barnes Lodge said: “Our residents’ birthdays are a little bit different at the moment but it’s not getting anyone down and we’re celebrating as normal.

“We’ve been finding new ways to communicate and working really hard to keep everything positive and it’s working really well. The team here have pulled together exceptionally well over the last few weeks and I’m really proud of them.”
