Lostock Lodge Care Home enjoy intergenerational visit from Bexton Primary School

Children from Bexton Primary School shared a wonderful morning with elderly residents at Lostock Lodge Care Home in Lostock Gralam. The year five pupils spent time chatting to residents, playing games and drawing pictures together.

Teachers at the school thanked staff at the home for giving the children a warm welcome and said they’d had ‘an amazing time’. The visit was part of the school’s Ethical Enterprise project with Age UK Cheshire East, their chosen ethical enterprise charity. The children have been enjoying a range of activities including, learning about dementia, putting on a concert for older Knutsford residents and finding out how life was different (and the same) for older people, when they were children. The visit to Lostock Lodge provided them with a memorable experience and new insights.

Parents of the children were very supportive of the visit saying that their children had been telling them all about their experiences and the conversations they’d had with the residents.
All the residents enjoyed the visit, especially Gwen Connell who was head cook at Bexton Primary for many years, she was very pleased to see the children.

The children and residents enjoyed playing cards together, board games and dominoes, they chatted together about their lives and what they enjoyed doing. A highlight of the visit was when the residents showed the children their interactive Omi projection system, featuring motion activated games, music and social activities designed to engage and motivate all generations.

“It was wonderful to have the children with us at Lostock Lodge” said Nina Rogers Customer Relations Manager “We are always happy to invite visitors of all ages into our home. It’s easy to see how these visits have a positive impact on the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of our residents, everyone was smiling and there was such a lovely fun atmosphere throughout the morning.”
