The people who work at Camelot House and Lodge in Wellington say they are “doubly happy” to have secured two places in the finals of the Somerset Outstanding Care Awards.
Sam Paddon, manager of the specialist dementia care home, has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Care Home Manager of the Year,’ and the service she manages, Camelot House and Lodge, is a finalist for ‘Care Home of the Year.’
Carol Edwards, director of operations for the Camelot Care group, said: “Sam is a fantastic manager, so it’s no surprise that both she and the home she manages have been shortlisted in the Outstanding Care Awards, but it’s always lovely to receive an endorsement from an independent source.
“Sam is an inspirational manager, motivating her team to achieve and retain the industry-leading Gold Standard Framework accreditation for three consecutive years, which is a terrific achievement.
“I think the secret to her success is her personal warmth and the way she always sees the bigger picture. She is involved at all levels from pre-assessment of new residents – to ensure that Camelot House or Lodge will really respond to their individual needs – to updating the staff training systems.
“In a sector where high staff turnover is a common problem, Camelot House and Lodge have excellent staff retention, which really speaks volumes about how well Sam does her job – and how much team members all love working with her.”
The Somerset Outstanding Care Awards are run by the Care Network Group to celebrate the most dedicated individuals, providers and suppliers in the care industry across Somerset.
In choosing finalists for the ‘Care Home Manager of the Year Award’ the judges were looking for managers who demonstrate a high level of expertise and show exceptional skills in managing the complex business of running a care home, including developing person-centred care and supporting staff to meet the ever-changing needs of their residents.
Camelot House and Lodge and the other finalists in the Care Home of the Year category have already been judged as demonstrating a shared vision, agreed goals, strong leadership and excellent communications, as well as showing recognition of individual colleagues’ skills, being committed to residents’ dignity and privacy and having a staff culture of mutual respect.
The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards dinner to take place on 20 September at the Winter Gardens Pavilion in Weston-super-Mare.
