Activity Coordinators at Alexandra Court Care Centre on Southcoates Lane in Hull have created a garden of tranquillity after years of fundraising.
On first meeting, the Activity Coordinators Linda and Christine appear to be chalk and cheese. Both are hugely capable of organising events and activities that interest the residents at the care home.
Their events and activities also bring in the local community and many volunteers.
But they can get jobs done, donations delivered and funds raised, which shows their deep understanding of caring for people and the importance of creating a happy and exciting environment for their residents.
Both have children with different disabilities, and that’s probably their most significant connection with each other. They want to do their best for other people, and it shows.
They regularly dress up and enc
ourage the other staff in the home to get involved along with the residents and have a diary of different events and days to keep everyone busy.
Much of the money they have raised so far, has been spent on the garden and, it takes your breath away when you walk into it.
Alan Titchmarsh would have trouble finding fault with their hard work!
Sam, the Home Manager, commented; ‘You really could be anywhere, the garden is an oasis of peace, and that’s what we try to create for our residents every day.
‘A home from home and a garden that’s just as perfect as any stately home.’
Recently the home held its Summer Fair. The local community, residents, their families and volunteers managed to raise over £600, and they then received two surprise donations rounding up their funds to over £1000!
The duo is thrilled for the residents and can’t wait to take them out and spend some more on the garden which is looking ‘blooming fabulous’!
Christine commented; ‘We have some amazing supporters and volunteers, who never cease to amaze us’.
Linda also said; ‘We try to be different and do things that we know the residents love, from dressing up to organising local children into the home or taking our choir to other homes.’
‘When we get donations like this, it makes the hours of planning worth it!’.
