Camberley care home and Dementia Café join forces for Care Home Open Day

Kings Lodge care home in Camberley has joined forces with the towns Alzheimer’s Café to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.

On Saturday 29 June a full day’s events are planned at the luxury home including live music, a Greek barbeque, a miniature pony and belly dancing.

Care Home Open Day is a national campaign established to bring communities into care homes to have a better understanding of the work they do.

Thousands of care homes across the UK take part each year, welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.

The renowned Alzheimer’s Café, run by Maureen Hume, will be joining the Kings Lodge team on the day to provide visitors and guests with information on their activities and to showcase the new dementia unit at the care home situated on the towns – Kings Ride.

“The event is open to all and we hope that we will have lots of families and visitors on the day,” said Kings Lodge manager Shawndell Barker. “In the morning there will be a flower arranging session that the public can join us for with our residents, an art workshop, afternoon activities including cream teas and in our onsite salon will become a nail bar, while the relaxation room will be busy for facials and massage.

“The amazing kitchen team here are doing a special Greek themed barbeque to remind us all that the sun does come out somewhere in the world – hopefully it will be shining on us on the 29 June.”

One of the care staff Kelly has a miniature pony that will be in the large garden area of the home to greet guests.
