The result of Exemplar’s inaugural naming collaboration with a primary school, the home’s name plays homage to its nearby river, the River Ribble. The pupils – aged between 9 and 11 – were provided with some brief guidelines for naming the £3m local care home, and with the support of teacher Lucy Wheeler 25 brilliant suggestions were put forward to a judging panel at Exemplar.
The winning name, Ribble View, was suggested by Year 6 pupil Kian who was awarded with a Samsung Galaxy tablet along with an invitation to the official opening of the home in Autumn 2019. The judging panel chose Kian’s entry because of its relevance to the local natural area and by naming the home after the local river, it reinforces the connection with local communities.
The pupils’ creativity also led to Exemplar unexpectedly choosing Year 5 pupil Chloe’s suggestion of ‘The Little Flower Garden’ as the name for the home’s garden. Chloe was awarded with a £50 Amazon voucher along with an invitation to join Kian at the home’s official opening.
Vicki Conway, Headteacher at Fishwick Primary School said: “We are thrilled to have been involved in the naming of Exemplar’s new home in Preston. The new home is very close to our school and we were humbled that the Exemplar team engaged with the pupils which gave them an opportunity to learn more about the home and its residents, and most importantly – to choose its name!”.
Work recently started on the Ribble View site on Church Avenue which will provide high-quality specialist care for up to 30 adults who live with complex nursing needs. The home will also provide a dozens of jobs for local people, with recruitment details expected to be released soon.
Due to open to residents in November 2019, Ribble View will be the latest in a series of new homes Exemplar are opening in 2019.
