Residents at Abbey Grange Nursing and Care Home in Sheffield marked Dementia Action Week with the ‘Abbey Grange Bake Off’ and coffee afternoon for residents, families and visitors. During the week residents busy time getting ready for the ‘Abbey Grange Bake Off’ with lots of baking and cake making activities.
The cakes were judged by the catering team at the care home who enjoyed the role reversal and opportunity to taste the resident’s baking.
During the week residents made Marble Cake and Lemon Curd buns, during their baking activity they enjoyed reminiscing about baking in the past and all the cakes they’ve enjoyed making.
Well-being and Activities Coordinator Sarah Simmonite said “It’s been a great week and the residents have really got into the spirit of the competition. We all enjoyed getting together at the end of the week to taste the delicious cakes and bakes”.
The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Action Week was 21st – 27th May. One person develops dementia every three minutes, yet too many face it alone. The Alzheimer’s Society are calling on everyone to take action to improve the everyday lives of people affected by dementia.
