Canary Wharf home care service is rated Outstanding by CQC


Home Instead Senior Care Canary Wharf has been rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

The domiciliary care service in Tiller Road, Tower Hamlets, was rated Outstanding for being well-led and caring. It was rated Good for being safe, effective and responsive, following the inspection in March 2018.

People using the service and their relatives spoke extremely positively about the support they received from the management team. Comments included: “It is fantastic really, truly wonderful and I can’t fault them.” Another said: “From the first day, after the visit they have been very professional and caring. I’ve not been disappointed.”  A recent compliment stated: “Your service has exceeded our expectations and we have recommended you to others.”

All of the staff CQC inspectors spoke with said they felt very well supported in their roles and we received many positive comments about the exceptional management of the service and how appreciated they felt. Comments included: “I don’t want to ever leave the company.” Another said: “They constantly check on us and we are supported 100% with everything. I can only sing their praises.”

Inspectors saw that the registered manager was dedicated to supporting people in the community who were living with dementia. She had worked closely with the Alzheimer’s Society and was a dementia champion.

The service had been the runner up for the Thames Gateway Employer of the Year award in October 2017, due to excellence in effective recruitment and retention of staff, well-being of staff and training and development.

Staff CQC spoke with showed great compassion and empathy and understood the effects of the ageing process to help them understand and meet the needs of people using the service. Creative training techniques gave staff the opportunity to experience certain symptoms of old age and how people might feel. One care worker said: “It is important for us to think how we would feel in these situations and it makes you realise it can’t be taken as a given and it must be how the client wants it done.”

Debbie Ivanova, CQC’s Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said: “This is yet another wonderful example of the consistently Outstanding care provided by the Home Instead organisation.

“I was particularly impressed by the care taken by management and staff at Home Instead Senior Care Canary Wharf. It obviously has a first rate registered manager who cares about her staff and those clients in the company’s care.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector, Adult Social Care, said: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An Outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
