Residents of Dene Holm Residential Care Home enjoyed a morning of singing and play musical instruments.
With the weather outside cold and rainy, the residents of Dene Holm Residential Care Home in Dene Holm Road came together for an indoor activity they could all enjoy.
Out came the music box with a wide selection of instruments much to the delight of the residents. There were lots to try out including a guitar, tambourine and some shakers. All of the residents were keen to give them a go, even if they didn’t know how to! Even the staff got involved with one of the carers playing a song on the guitar.
Everyone was singing along to the music and there was a real buzz in the air. Some residents got up for a little dance turning it into their own party!
Chris Hutchinson, general manager of Dene Holm commented: “The residents really enjoyed singing and playing the instruments. With the weather a bit miserable at the moment, indoor activities give the residents something to look forward to and create a real buzz in the atmosphere. Music is always a very popular activity and one that the majority of residents like to join in with”.
This is a great activity for the residents as engaging with music is beneficial for older people. It is said to help express emotions, improve listening and comprehension, promote good memory, and improve verbal and social skills.
