Scottish care homes’ Head Chef proves he’s the Crème de la Crème

Congratulations to Oakbridge Care Homes’, Head Chef, Richard Pandelus on attaining the SVQ in Management at SCQF Level 9.

 

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Management at SCQF level 9 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise. It has been developed to support those working as middle managers.

 

This qualification is jointly awarded with the Chartered Institute of Management (CIM).

 

Richard works as Head Chef at Oakbridge Care Home on Great Western Road in Glasgow and is delighted with his achievement.  

 

Oakbridge Care Home, part of the Oakminster Healthcare family of care homes provides up to 85 places for the frail elderly, and within this 6 places for physically disabled residents. The home also caters for residential and nursing clients.

 

Richard always knew he would be a chef and in his younger years, he worked on trawlers for fourteen years while enjoying catering as his hobby. Married with one son and preparing meals for the residents at Oakbridge Care Home, Richard is a very busy chef.

 

Richard got his first taste of being a chef at a family member’s seafood restaurant on the Isle of Bute. He really enjoyed the experience and then moved to a training kitchen and gained all his qualifications in catering and hospitality.

 

His first position as a chef in a care home came when he was in his 30’s and worked as part of the kitchen team at a care home in Helensburgh. Richard later moved to a restaurant and golf course in chef positions and finally joined Oakminster Healthcare Ltd over ten years ago.

“Care home catering is a specialised field, and requires different expertise to other forms of catering. Richard is a great leader and chef and supports all our chefs to fully understand the unique requirements and challenges of working in a care home and provide an excellent service to our residents.”
