Oakdale Care Group celebrate “Topping Out” ceremony at historic British Timken site

Oakdale Care Group hosted a landmark ‘topping out’ ceremony at Timken Grange, Duston last week.  The brand-new luxury residential and dementia care home is currently being built on the site of the historic British Timken factory.  Several former employees and key individuals with strong links to the bearings manufacturer were present as the Deputy Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Tony Ansell, placed the last roof tile to complete the external construction of the building.

The topping out ceremony reflects the ancient practice of celebrating the bedding of the last brick or tile of a new building to ward off spirits which may have been displaced during its construction.  The ceremony was a poignant occasion for local man, Dennis Nightingale, who was employed by British Timken for over 45 years.  Dennis was also the last person to leave the factory when it closed its doors for the final time in 2002.

Co-Founder of Oakdale Care Group, Chris Babington, said; “We are really excited to see Timken Grange taking shape and the “topping out” ceremony brings us one step closer to opening the home.  We are looking forward to showcasing the great facilities we have on offer – it will be a spacious, comfortable and elegant home in a great location that will create around 50 jobs for local people. We are extremely proud of the strong heritage of the site and are keen to build and develop on the existing positive legacy British Timken has created and we are sure that Timken Grange will soon become a key part of the local community.”

Once open in January 2018, Timken Grange will provide residential and dementia care for 66 people in state-of-the-art accommodation.  It is the second home for Oakdale Care Group, with the first being Kingfisher Court in Sutton-in-Ashfield.  Oakdale Care Group has a strong care service, accommodation and lifestyle offer backed by an all-inclusive price promise that means services normally charged extra by other care homes such as hairdressing, chiropody, cinema, newspapers, activities and trips out are fully included in the fee.  The transparent single fee means there are no hidden extras or additional costs to allow for, providing clarity and peace of mind.
