Despite the torrential rain, residents of Barnes Lodge Residential Care Home enjoyed all the fun of the fair, when they got together to celebrate the home’s first birthday on 30th August.
With kitchen staff firing up the BBQ in the garden and an ice cream van on its way, residents of the Tudeley Lane residential care home were not defeated by the downpour, celebrating the home’s first year of business with a fun fair event, regardless of the rain.
Whilst residents and their guests tucked into their barbecued burgers and sausages, they challenged one another to the games, including hook a duck, tin can alley, name the bear and beat the goalie, which had all been set up inside due to the great British summer!
Partygoers also had fun with the props and photo booth but the excitement really began when the ice cream van turned up! Accompanied by staff with lots of umbrellas, the residents eagerly made their way to the van to get their hands on their nostalgic 99s!
Sara Grist, general manager of Barnes Lodge commented: “The residents had a wonderful afternoon at our first birthday party, irrespective of the dreadful weather, we were not defeated!
“Barnes Lodge Residential Care Home has been open for a year now and we are delighted that we have really implanted ourselves into the community, as well as developing a community of our own. We are all looking forward to seeing what the next year will bring.”
