Peterborough Care is enjoying a period of expansion as it develops its fifth care home due to complete in July 2018. Royal Bank of Scotland has supported this purpose built development with a seven figure funding package.

Thorpe Wood care home has been designed with dementia residents in mind. The two storey building will comprise of two households of ten residents and two households of fifteen residents, each with a lounge and open plan dining room at the centre, with en-suite bedrooms built around this facility. Long corridors have been avoided in the architectural design to prevent further confusion for future residents suffering with this illness.

A hairdressing salon and cinema room will also be part of this prestigious development as well as a café on site that can be enjoyed by both residents and their families.

Peterborough Care will create 60 new jobs in the area, which will be a mixture of part time and full time roles. This will add to the 170 employees across the group’s four existing care homes in Peterborough. A full time manager will be appointed to oversee the 24 hour care provided at Thorpe Wood.

Peterborough Care is a family run business involving two brothers, Ajay and Amar, and mother and father, Shammy and David. The business has been established in Peterborough for 33 years. Thorpe Wood will be the second purpose built home to be developed by the care operator, with The Maltings opening in 2014.

Ajay Marjara, Director at Peterborough Care, explains: “We have built up a successful business providing dedicated nursing and dementia care for our elderly residents. Thorpe Wood care home is slightly different as it has been designed to help us support our residents suffering with dementia when we fully open next year.

“Royal Bank of Scotland has been a great support over the years and we cannot thank Graham enough for his sector experience, financial backing and guidance. With his shared belief and vision, we are continuing to provide first class care for the Peterborough community.”

Graham Tallyn, Healthcare Relationship Director at Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “Peterborough Care is the brand behind an ambitious family who are all knowledgeable in their field and add different strengths to keep this company growing at an impressive rate. We are delighted to support them with their expansion plans, assisting further care in the community. We wish them all the very best as they bring this development to a natural completion next summer.”
