WEST Yorkshire based Czajka Care Group is sponsoring young tennis player Luke Johnson from Roundhay in Leeds as he embarks on a professional sporting career and pursues his dream of climbing to the top of world tennis.
The 23 year old turned professional in October after returning from the US, where he’d spent four years obtaining a bachelor of science at Clemson University in South Carolina. This also gave him the opportunity to hone his skills on the acclaimed US college tennis circuit.
Czajka Care Group, which owns and operates five care and nursing homes, throughout Nab Wood and the Aire Valley, will contribute towards Luke’s training, travel and equipment costs as he competes on the ATP Futures tour. Over the next 12 months, Luke estimates that he will need approximately £25,000 to play in up to 30 tournaments and hopes to raise as much of this as possible through corporate sponsorships.
Since October, he has already played tournaments in Egypt, Turkey and Greece, as well as winning his first professional title at the Aegon GB Pro-Series Shrewsbury in February, with doubles partner Scott Clayton. He is currently coached by Ian McDonald and Dave Sammel, who have worked with most of the top 100 men’s players in Britain.
Luke says: “Turning professional towards the end of last year has been hugely exciting, but the reality is that you need to compete in lots of tournaments in order to climb the world rankings which is very expensive, and the prize money simply doesn’t cover it at this level. Therefore I’m delighted to have the support of Czajka Care Group as I work towards progressing from the Futures Tour and onto the ATP Challenger Tour, which is the feeder circuit for the ATP World Tour.
“I’m making great progress and winning my first professional title in February was an amazing feeling. I’m now determined to continue building on this success over the coming months and Czajka’s sponsorship will really help me with this.”
Konrad Czajka, managing director of Czajka Care Group, says: “What Luke is doing is fantastic and we’re delighted to be supporting him as he follows his dream of a professional sporting career. We are big believers in the power of sport, and have some fantastic facilities at our Clubhouse at Fairmount Park where people can take part in a wide range of activities. We know that all of our residents and staff will definitely enjoy watching Luke’s progress over the coming months, and we will all be cheering him on as he competes in tournaments throughout the world.”
Czajka Care Group owns and operates Fairmount Nursing Home, Brookfield Care Home and Staveley Birk Leas Nursing Home, which are all in Nab Wood near Shipley, as well as Currergate Nursing Home in Steeton and Beanlands Nursing Home in Cross Hills. The company also operates The Clubhouse at Fairmount Park, which is a members’ only club with a wide range of leisure facilities and a renowned restaurant.
