The Welsh dragon was flying high at Holcroft Grange, the Croftwood Care-run residential home in Warrington, as residents marked St David’s Day with a day-long party celebrating the very best of Welsh culture.
To mark the special day, staff decorated the home in Welsh colours, hanging red, white and green bunting throughout the home and adorning every surface with daffodils, the national flower of Wales. The festivities began with a special St. David’s Day quiz, covering a range of questions on Welsh history and culture.
Once the winners of the quiz had been announced, Jan Rees, daughter of Holcroft Grange resident Ceridwen ‘Crid’ Lewis, joined the celebrations dressed in full Welsh costume and sang traditional Welsh songs with musical accompaniment by her husband, Rupert, to an enraptured audience.
Residents also enjoyed traditional Welsh cuisine throughout the day, with Welsh rarebit on the lunch menu and Welsh cakes with tea in the afternoon.
Shirley Paton, Home Manager at Holcroft Grange, commented: “Everyone at Holcroft Grange thoroughly enjoyed our St. David’s Day celebrations. We always endeavour to put on a variety of activities and events at the home, as they are great opportunities to bring our residents together and can really improve their quality of life. The residents were delighted with the Welsh-themed food and decorations, and loved joining in with the wonderful performances from Jan and Rupert.”
