Tonbridge care home resident celebrates her 100th birthday with family and friends

One hundred year old Gladys Joyce, who has lived with The Abbeyfield Kent Society for 13 years, celebrated her centenary birthday surrounded by her friends at family at Barnes Lodge.

Joined by family, friends, residents and staff of the new Tudeley Lane care home, Gladys celebrated a very special birthday indeed on Thursday 9th February.

With plenty of balloons, banners, flowers and birthday cards around her, Gladys celebrated her special day with cups of tea and a homemade cake at Barnes Lodge, as her family and friends all came along to wish her well and celebrate with her.

Gladys has lived in Tonbridge most of her life, as a young lady she assisted in the making of the Mosquito planes, for WW2. Gladys went on to manage Scott’s Dry Cleaners in Tonbridge, before running the Restaurant Tea Rooms in Paddock Wood.

Nicola Newman, social activities facilitator at Barnes Lodge, commented: “It was a privilege to be able to celebrate Gladys’ very special birthday with her, it was also brilliant that so many of her friends and family could join us for the occasion!”
