Hatfield care home hosts well known pantomime

A Sanctuary Care home in Hatfield transformed itself into a scene of a well-known pantomime this Christmas time.

Complete with beautiful bright costumes and props, the team at Hatfield Residential and Nursing Home in Tamblin Way dazzled the audience with their very own rendition of Little Red Riding Hood.

Dressed as the Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood and Red’s Grandmother, the team pulled out all the stops to perform a panto-extravaganza in front of residents and loved ones.

87-year-old Jean Taylor said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the panto performance, a lot of imagination went into it – it was fantastic.”

Fellow resident Peggy Baker added: “It was such a cheery performance, I used to love going to the theatre so was great to have the show in our home.”

Being a real team effort, residents and the team came together in the run up to the performance to hand craft all the props including a homemade backdrop.

The Sanctuary Care home’s activities leader Paula Sigala said: “Many of our residents have fond memories of visiting the theatre with their families during Christmas time so every year we bring this tradition into the heart of our home.

“It was great to perform the production with my team and the residents loved every second, we all worked so hard including the residents and it was all worthwhile – everyone was smiling and laughing.”

The home’s manager Mary Tolladay added: “The performance certainly didn’t disappoint and was a great success! The team really pulled together to put on a wonderful show for the sheer joy of our residents and it was clear everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”

Ensuring all their residents enjoyed the Christmas tradition of a panto show, the team performed the Wilhelm Grimm and Charles Perrault classic five times in total before Christmas day – touring their production to each suite of the Tamblin Way home, with the Welwyn and Hatfield’s Mayor, Councillor Patricia Mabbott also joining the audience.
