Supported living service wins prestigious award at London ceremony

A supported living service has won a prestigious national award.

Supporting You in the Midlands, a service which supports people across the Midlands in Worcester, Cannock, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Worcester, Hereford, Gloucester and Stoke-on-Trent, has won the social care category in the LaingBuisson awards.

Over 800 delegates from across the health and social care sectors attended the awards evening where they were presented with the accolade on 29 November. The evening was hosted by Gyles Brandreth, a broadcaster, writer, actor and former Member of Parliament at Park Plaza hotel, in London Bridge.

The LaingBuisson Awards recognise and celebrate industry excellence in health and social care across the public and private sectors.

The service’s nomination for the social care category was based on feedback from tenants and staff. They praised how the service improves their ability to enhance their independence. Over the last 18 months, many people have moved out of the service having been helped by staff to develop the necessary skills to live independently without support.

SYI Midlands provides support to individuals with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental illnesses to assist with daily living in their own home or via outreach services, so they can live as independent lives as possible. People receive support catered to their own personal needs. The service is based in Worcester and is managed by Craegmoor, part of the Priory Group.

Sally Jobling, Regional Manager of SYI Midlands and South Wales, said, “It was a delightful evening. It was just a fabulous occasion. Everyone at these services works so hard and they deserve this accolade greatly. Everyone is looking forward to next year when we are set to open more services.”

Sarah Hughes, CEO of Craegmoor, said: “Congratulations to everyone who works at SYI Midlands for winning this top award. The service is outstanding in how they go about providing support and delivering outcomes which enhance the people they support’s standard of living.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people we support, and their relatives, for working with us to achieve excellence.”
