Healthcare Homes group, which provides residential, nursing and domiciliary care services, is making a commitment to achieving the highest possible food hygiene standards throughout its 35 homes. Out of all the homes in the group, which are located across East Anglia and the south of England, an impressive 91% are rated as being of 5 star standard for food hygiene, meaning they are ‘very good’.
Only three of the thirty five are not currently rated as 5 star, but have all been awarded 4 stars, rating them as ‘good’ by industry inspectors.
The food hygiene rating scheme is run by the Food Standards Agency in partnership with local authorities. Businesses are inspected by a food safety officer who checks that the business meets the requirements of food hygiene law. The officer will check how hygienically the food is handled, the condition of the structure of the buildings and how the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe.
Healthcare Homes takes pride in setting the highest standards for exemplary care and health and nutrition are both key to this. High food standards are achieved at each home through training programmes for all catering and kitchen staff and strict adherence to regulatory checks. Home Managers also ensure that the catering team is involved in understanding the dietary requirements and personal preferences of each resident, to ensure this is taken into consideration when menu planning takes place, so specific needs are catered for every day.
Group Managing Director Mike Osborne said: “I am extremely proud that our homes are operating to such a high level regarding the food hygiene standards. We are not complacent however, and our target is to work with all homes to ensure these standards are maintained and, where needed, further improvements are made so we can work towards achieving five stars across the entire group.
“Providing safe, healthy and enjoyable food is an essential part of the care we provide and we are committed to achieving the highest standards possible across all 35 homes.”
