Jemima Burnage, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:
“We were impressed with what we found during our inspection of Care By Us.
“Inspectors found people had choices about their care and were supported to develop their own care plan with staff based on their needs, wishes and what was important to them. Staff recorded people’s wishes, what dignity and respect meant to them and gave people options regarding their support.
“The care and support people received was effective and enabled them to remain in their own homes and live independently. “We found there was a strong emphasis on a personalised and caring approach towards all the people using the service. The provider ensured people were listened to and their views were central to the care and support provided. Care was provided in a holistic way, rather than viewing people’s needs in isolation. “People told us staff were kind, caring and offered support which met their needs, making them feel safe, and we found staff showed a caring attitude when talking about those who used the service.
“The provider actively sought feedback from people who used the service and took prompt action to resolve concerns and, when people started using the service or experienced problems, weekly well-being visits from senior staff were arranged. “Any complaints were investigated and, where needed, improvements were made and learning from these was shared with staff.
“Additionally, the provider had been chosen by two local county councils to develop and implement their ‘accelerated hospital discharge’ projects across Hertfordshire and West Essex. They were the only provider working on these projects and successfully built and facilitated safe discharges from hospitals for people back to their own homes.
“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”
Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:
“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.
“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
