Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Mark Rhodes, joined staff and residents at Westbank Care Home in Borough Green to formally re-launch the newly refurbished home.
Residents, relatives and staff were delighted that the Mayor was in attendance to help with the ribbon cutting. Following the ceremony, the Mayor and ward member Cllr Steve Perry were able to spend time chatting with residents before taking a tour of the home.
With the summer sun shining, guests were given the opportunity to sample the home’s new menu programme, designed by nutritionists who specialise in the dietary needs of the elderly, on the new patio with a BBQ and canapes. Attendees with a sweet-tooth were also in for a treat, as they indulged in cakes baked and decorated by the residents.
Musical entertainment was provided by a jazz pianist and steel band.
Westbank Care Home has recently undergone a complete refurbishment which includes a new open plan reception area, dining room and carvery station, as well as a new patio and conservatory area for the community at the home to enjoy.
Under the stewardship of Home Manager, Genevieve Rodrigues, the home has introduced many new practices to raise the standard of care for each resident. This includes the introduction of a wide-ranging and comprehensive activities schedule and ensuring greater input in the care of residents from local dementia specialists. In particular, Genevieve has formed strong links with the Heart of Kent Hospice, and Westbank has joined their collaboration group for care homes.
Genevieve Rodrigues, Home Manager at Westbank Care Home commented:
“This is the start of an exciting new chapter for the community at Westbank.
“The refurbished home looks wonderful and I am thrilled to have such a dedicated and experienced team, who will be providing the highest quality person-centred care for our residents.
“We were delighted the Mayor joined us and we thank him for attending our milestone event. We had a lovely time celebrating the re-launch of the home, which showed the warmth and joy so often present here at Westbank.”
