Residents at The Cedars, the CLS-run care home in Cheshire, were delighted to spend a day horsing around during a recent trip to Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre and Countryside Park, the home of the world-renowned Cotebrook Shire Horse Stud.
During their visit, The Cedars’ residents listened to an expert speak about the centre’s Shire Horses and their care, and learnt more about the breeding programme for the magnificent Shire show horses that have been bred at the centre for over 40 years.
After this educational talk, the residents toured the farm and saw its other inhabitants, including Shetland ponies, piglets, chickens and peacocks, before rounding off the day with a spot of afternoon tea in the visitors’ centre.
Rebecca Murphy, Home Manager at The Cedars, commented: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit to Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre, and our residents were delighted to see these beautiful show horses up close. We always have a lot of activities going on at The Cedars, and trips like these are fantastic for bringing the residents together to socialise; everyone was sharing their memories of the visit for days afterwards!”
